How to Find the Cheap Flight Tickets to Spain

Practical, proven tips for cutting the cost of your UK to Spain flight

Be Flexible With Dates & Airports

Shifting your travel by even a few days, or comparing London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton against each other, can uncover meaningfully cheaper fares to Spain.

Compare Nearby Spanish Airports

The Costa del Sol has Malaga and Gibraltar; the Costa Blanca has Alicante and Murcia. Comparing nearby airports at your destination often reveals a cheaper fare for a similar journey.

Fly Early Morning or Late Evening

The first and last flights of the day to Spain are consistently cheaper than midday departures — can save £40–£100 per passenger versus peak-hour slots.

Book Around Your Travel Window

Aim for 4–8 weeks ahead for off-peak travel, and 10–16 weeks ahead for summer, Easter and half-term dates.

Compare Baggage-Inclusive Prices

A headline easyJet or Ryanair fare without checked baggage can end up costing more once bags are added — always compare the total, all-in price across airlines.

Avoid School Holidays Where Possible

UK school holiday overlaps (summer, Christmas, Easter, half-terms) push fares up sharply. Travelling just outside these windows can mean significant savings.

Why UK Travellers Love Flying to Spain

Everything you need to know before booking cheap flights to Spain from UK — see our full UK to Spain flights guide

Spain is the UK’s undisputed favourite holiday destination, welcoming over 18 million British visitors every year. From the beaches of the Costa del Sol and the White Isle of Ibiza to the islands of Mallorca and Lanzarote, UK families, couples and groups have been flying to Spain for decades. Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza, Palma and Tenerife South are the busiest UK to Spain routes by passenger numbers.

Budget airlines dominate the beach resort routes. easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI all offer very competitive fares — and because there are so many flights per day, flexibility on travel times and dates can unlock remarkable savings. Families should check Jet2’s 22kg baggage inclusion, which makes it exceptionally good value for holidays with luggage.

Barcelona and Madrid are two of Europe’s greatest cities, drawing millions of UK travellers for city breaks, architecture, food, football and art. British Airways and Iberia fly direct from London Heathrow to both cities, with frequent daily departures. Barcelona in particular is connected to virtually every UK regional airport via easyJet, Ryanair and Vueling.

For culture-seekers, Seville, Bilbao, Valencia and San Sebastián are increasingly popular from the UK — accessible via Ryanair, Vueling and Iberia connections. Bilbao and the Basque Country have seen major growth in UK visitor numbers thanks to their world-class food scene and the Guggenheim Museum.

Spain is home to approximately 300,000 registered British residents, the largest UK expat community in Europe. The Costa Blanca (Alicante), Costa del Sol (Malaga), Costa Brava (Girona) and the Canary Islands all have substantial British communities. Since Brexit, UK citizens are subject to the 90-days-in-180-days rule for visa-free stays, but longer residency routes are available under Spain’s Non-Lucrative Visa and Digital Nomad Visa.

For UK expats returning to visit family or travelling between the UK and their Spanish home, frequent flights and low fares make the route very manageable. Ryanair, easyJet and Vueling all operate year-round schedules to expat-heavy destinations including Alicante, Malaga, Almeria and Murcia.

Direct flights dominate the UK to Spain market and are usually the most cost-effective option on major routes like Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and Alicante. Connecting flights via Madrid on Iberia can occasionally offer value for smaller regional Spanish airports not served directly from the UK, but generally add unnecessary journey time on this short-haul route.
Total cost depends heavily on destination and travel style, but a typical week-long Spain holiday from the UK covers flights, accommodation, food, local transport, attractions and travel insurance. Costa del Sol family packages and Barcelona city breaks have very different cost profiles — comparing hold-baggage-inclusive fares is a key factor in the total cost.
Yes. Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and La Palma all receive direct flights from multiple UK airports on easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI. The Canary Islands are part of Spain and EU territory, so the same post-Brexit 90-day entry rule applies. Flight time from the UK to Tenerife is approximately 4 hours.
You will need a valid passport meeting current entry requirements. UK citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays up to 90 days. Border officials may request proof of accommodation, return travel arrangements and sufficient funds for your visit. Requirements can change, so always check gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain before you fly.
Off-peak fares are generally best booked 4 to 8 weeks ahead of travel. For high-demand periods such as July, August, Easter, Whitsun and October half-term, booking 10 to 16 weeks in advance is strongly recommended as budget airline fares rise sharply once seats begin selling out.
Ibiza and Barcelona are two of the most popular group destinations for UK travellers — Ibiza for hen, stag and celebration trips with beach clubs and nightlife, and Barcelona for multi-generational groups and city breaks with friends. For groups of four or more, TripNext can negotiate seat blocks and group rates that aren't available through standard online booking.
Yes. TripNext can quote flight-and-hotel packages to Barcelona, Malaga, Palma, Alicante, Ibiza and Tenerife from UK airports. Indicative prices run from around £229 per person for a 3-night Barcelona break to around £449 for 7 nights in the Canary Islands.
Mid-range double rooms typically start from about £40 a night on the Costa Blanca, £55–£65 in Malaga, Seville, Madrid and Barcelona, and £75 in Ibiza, rising in July, August, Easter and half-terms. Rates are indicative.
The Eixample suits sightseeing and Gaudí architecture, the Gothic Quarter is best for nightlife and the old town, and Barceloneta puts you by the beach.
For beach resorts such as the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca, Mallorca and the Canaries, a package is often cheaper and includes baggage. For city breaks, compare the package with separate flights and hotel.
The EES became fully operational at Schengen external borders on 10 April 2026. UK passport holders have fingerprints and a photo recorded on first entry, replacing passport stamping. Allow extra time at Spanish airports and check gov.uk before you fly.
Not as far as we know. ETIAS has been announced for UK visitors but, at the time of writing, has no confirmed start date and a transition period is planned. Check gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain for the latest.
Your passport should be less than 10 years old on the day you enter and valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area.
Key dates: UK October half-term, Christmas and New Year in the Canaries, Las Fallas in Valencia (15–19 March 2027), Semana Santa (21–28 March 2027) and the Barcelona Marathon in March. Fares and hotel rates rise around these dates.
Jet2 is a popular family choice, with 22kg hold baggage included in most fares and wide regional coverage. TUI also bundles baggage on beach routes, and British Airways and Iberia suit families wanting full service.
It depends on route, date and extras. Ryanair often has the lowest headline fare, while easyJet flies from more London airports. Compare the all-in price including hold bags and seats.
Barcelona is the most popular first choice thanks to frequent direct flights and easy-to-navigate sights. Madrid suits museums and tapas, and Malaga combines beach and city.
The UK GHIC gives access to state healthcare at local-resident cost but does not cover repatriation or private care, so comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.
